FIRST OFF, WHEN DID YOU PICK SURFING UP?
It wasn’t until I was on the Canadian Ski Team that my feet ever hit a beach. All of my vacations growing up were ski vacations. On the way home from a World Cup competition in Japan a bunch of my teammates and I stopped in Hawaii and that was where I fell in love with surfing. Actually the relationship was lukewarm in the beginning. My teammate loaned me a board, gave me a two minute lesson on the beach and I jumped in the ocean. I was a competitive swimmer growing up but it didn’t help much in the beginning until I understood the waves, tides and currents. My first day was on a short board at a reef break at Diamond Head Beach. I didn’t catch a wave that day but I certainly had some good cuts from the reef.

WHAT IS IT ABOUT SURFING THAT ATTRACTED  YOU TO THE SPORT?
After growing up on a ski hill wearing endless layers to stay warm I was attracted to the warm weather and the need to only wear a bikini. I love being in the water and not knowing when the next wave will roll through.

WHAT IS THE BIGGEST WAVE YOU HAVE EVER RIDDEN?
In Hookipa, Panama and Nicaragua I surfed 10ft face waves. Surfing the wave was the easy part. It was the moment where the giant mass of water rolled towards me and I somehow convinced myself that it was a good idea to turn my board and commit to drop into it as my heart skipped a few beats. But there is no other feeling like dropping into a wave on the edge of my ability.
